Testimonials
I have known Larry for over 10 years and have taken lessons with him for much of that time. I was introduced to Larry by my wife. She started her tennis journey with Larry and his balanced approach of pushing her along, but with a friendly demeanor helped her love of the game grow significantly. She is now playing or practicing several times a week because of that strong base that Larry helped provide. My experience is much the same. Larry is extremely pleasant to be around. He has a plan for your development but he is not so tied to his plan that he won’t stop and work on whatever you think is necessary to enhance your enjoyment of the game. I played many sports growing up, have had many golf instructors and other tennis coaches. I place Larry at the top of the list as someone who I get a lot of benefit from his knowledge while enjoying his company.
I have known Larry through tennis for several years. Larry has been stringing my racquets personally for the last 6 years. His professionalism when dealing with my tennis racquets is unbelievable. He communicates well with me so I know how long it will take for my racquets to be finished. The one strong point that Larry brings to stringing racquets is his knowledge of the tennis game. He plays competitively and is a teaching pro as well. We can talk about my tennis game and if there are changes to string or tension if needed. I would highly recommend going to Larry & the Tennis-Tique for racquet stringing and anything else tennis related.
It’s been my pleasure to take tennis lessons from Larry Lebatique for the last four or five years. Those lessons have improved my game considerably and have been a lot of fun, as well.
Like excellent teachers in other disciplines, Larry knows just how much coaching–and what style of coaching—is appropriate for a given individual. While some instructors overwhelm a student with verbiage, Larry understands that it can be difficult for a student to learn more than one or—maybe—two things at a time. Accordingly, he focuses the student on the next important steps in their progress, without getting too far ahead of the story.
Larry’s knowledge of the game of tennis is encyclopedic, but, rather than impose that large fund of knowledge on a student, he makes an effort to understand a student’s areas of interest and ability level, before focusing on a strategy that will allow them to make progress. For example, some individuals—like me—get a kick out of discussing the biomechanics of different strokes and Larry is happy to get into those details. Some students approach learning the game in other ways and Larry considers the nuances of those viewpoints before designing a lesson for them.
Importantly, Larry understands that sports are intended to be “played.” They are meant to be fun. And, accordingly, so are Larry’s lessons! During my sessions with Larry we work toward my goals intensely, but also have time to laugh.
It’s my pleasure to give Larry my highest recommendation for anyone hoping to improve their tennis and enhance their enjoyment of a great sport.
